WaterMarc's Active Swim Squad is a Hit!
Only a few short months ago, WaterMarc introduced their Active Swim Squad. This program, was designed for swimmers who are interested in maintaining their fitness and developing their technique in structured training sessions! Whether you are wanting to improve fitness, or compete in an open water swim, our Active Swim Squad will help you achieve your goals.
Jacque Ross, one of the original squad members sent through her excitement and appreciation for this new program. Here is her experince so far!
“Swimming can be a very solitary activity. At times it can be meditative but sometimes just going through the motions lap after lap doesn’t cut it when we need motivation and inspiration to push ourselves to keep improving - regardless of our starting point. Having someone who puts a session program on an Active Swim Squad whiteboard each Monday at 6:30pm makes it a no brainer. We get in the water, have a job to do and are motivated by our trainer Luke and the others in the lane with us.
Although we are all of differing ages and abilities, we get to set our own benchmarks. Records are kept of, for example, time taken to complete 1km freestyle or a set of 10 X 100m. We work on technique each week and hope that the next time we do one of these we will see progress.
We are encouraged to do things we might not otherwise, like for me this is kicking work, and it is paying dividends. We are also asked to do some sets using strokes other than freestyle, adding variety. Active Swim Squad is like a fun Group Fitness Session - time to work hard and time to chat at the end of the lane between sets.
My goal as senior participant, is to strive for improvement, minimising the risk of deterioration of physical and mental wellbeing and the WaterMarc Active Swim Squad is a great start. A few of us will be doing some open water swims during the summer season and this will continue to develop the social side of the group.”
