WaterMarc's Open Day
18 September 2019
WaterMarc Holds a Jungle Event with a Cause!
On Thursday the 26th of September WaterMarc will be holding their jungle-themed open day
with a cause! The fun-filled ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ event will aim to raise important funds for
local primary school, Olympic Village.
Together, WaterMarc and the Belgravia Foundation, a not-for-profit registered charity organisation have identified a community access gap at Olympic Village Primary School for accredited swimming lessons. After analysing the region, it was discovered that students at the school are at high risk of not meeting the standard Victorian Water Safety skills and curriculum goals implemented by the State Government due to a lack of local funding.
To ensure students meet these requirements, Belgravia Foundation and WaterMarc have worked with Olympic Village Primary School to develop to a solution whereby state-accredited swimming lessons will be delivered at WaterMarc commencing in January 2020.
WaterMarc Centre Manager, Alex Hutchison said, “Our open day events often draw in a lot of people from Greensborough and broader north-east suburbs. As a high traffic venue, Open Day is the perfect fundraising opportunity to raise the profile and needs of local community initiatives”.
The funds raised from the Open Day will go towards the partnership with Olympic Village Primary School and help to guide future projects that will improve access to swimming lessons and other recreational needs in the local area.
Jeff Walkley, Belgravia Foundation CEO said, “There are many benefits from participation in physical activity. Unfortunately, access to recreational activities is not always available.”
“Through the Belgravia Foundation, we aim to work closely with the community and local leisure and recreation venues to find solutions that help connect at-risk or those in need with leisure, health and wellbeing programs”, says Jeff.
There will be a $5 entry fee for the WaterMarc Open Day event. All entry fees will support the Olympic Village initiative and give community members access to waterslides, pool activities, group and family-friendly fitness classes, jumping castle, the gym, reptile show and much more!
The all-inclusive open day will run between 12 pm – 7 pm.
